یا وراثت | New Heirloom is an exhibition by artist Meher Khan that explores the sari as both a garment and an art object. In New Heirloom, Khan explores themes of gender, family, societal expectations, and history. The Outlook Gallery installation will include saris, each adorned with designs of plants, and will hang 18 feet long and 5 feet high.
“My understanding of a sari is a garment loaded with connotations about an Indian woman’s status and the expectations placed on her by her family, culture, and society. Finely crafted saris and other garments can become heirlooms, passed down to daughters and subsequent generations. I create space in my own history for saris that are embedded, not with age and generational meaning, but with my own hand and origins." -Meher Khan
The exhibition will be on display from June 20–August 3, 2025.
