From Privilege to Purpose: An Afternoon with HRH Crown Prince Manvendra
For Minneapolis Pride Weekend, Open Book warmly welcomes Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil, the world’s first openly gay royal from India, and his husband DeAndre Richardson, for an afternoon learning their story of discovery, resilience and activism through readings, conversation, music and reflection.
In times when the right to be oneself can feel fragile, the courage to live your truth becomes a revolutionary act of love.
As India’s first openly gay royal and a direct descendant of one of India’s oldest dynasties, Prince Manvendra’s story made international news in 2006 when he came out as a homosexual, his family disowned him, and effigies of him were burned in public. Today, he is an internationally recognized human rights advocate. His journey is a testament to courage, resilience, and the power of truth.
The prince’s inspiring story will be interwoven with music selections, played by the Prince, on the Harmonium, an Indian musical instrument.
The Prince and his Husband will share their journey of embracing one’s identity, breaking free from cultural constraints, and finding profound purpose in the face of adversity. With wisdom, humor, and heartfelt truth, they’ll share how love—when rooted in authenticity—becomes a force of transformation, healing, and unity.
Whether you are part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally for justice and love, this event will remind us: There is no freedom greater than being who you truly are.
Although they will not be traveling with books, they are happy to sign books for those who have them. To purchase a book ahead of time: https://www.magersandquinn.com/product/A-Royal-Commitment-Ten-Years-of-Marriage-and-Activism/27077921
