CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to clarify Open Book building usage expectations and to ensure its fair and consistent application.

We set forth the following Code of Conduct to protect the building, provide visitors with the best experience possible, and also be a welcoming spot for a variety of people.

Open Book including its buildings, sidewalks, and parking areas is private property, while at the same time, the organization aspires to be a place where visitors can gather, spend time, relax, and recharge in public areas without the need to be a paying or an active consumer of one of the tenant organizations. We respect the right of people to gather at Open Book free from harm and harassment.

Visitor Responsibilities

Each patron has a personal responsibility to ensure that Open Book is a welcoming environment for all.

Visitors are expected to:

● Understand that Open Book is a public place shared by many

● Avoid disruptive behaviors that may hinder other uses of Open Book

● Be courteous and respect other visitors and staff

● Conduct themselves in a safe and orderly way; allowing others to do the same

● Attend to children and animals in their care

● Respect Open Book and Open Book tenant property

● Safeguard personal items

● Comply with all federal, state, and local laws

Visitors should refrain from . . .

● Shouting or using indecent language

● Playing loud music or having loud phone conversations

● Defacing, damaging, shoplifting, or destroying property

● Behavior that is disorderly, disruptive, or endangers others

● Sitting on planters, handrails, artwork, stairs, trash receptacles, or other areas not specifically designed for seating

● Sleeping

● Wearing offensive or obscene clothing

● Bringing loud or uncontrolled animals into the space

● Carrying weapons of any kind, including but not limited to firearms, explosives, fireworks, clubs or sticks (except umbrellas, canes, and other medical-type devices), knives with blades over 2” in length, or any other object(s) that may be used in any way to inflict bodily injury on another person, even if legally owned

● Blocking access to entrances, corridors, or parking areas

● Engaging in “horseplay,” loitering, obstructing, or interfering with the free flow of visitors

● Bathing or washing bodies or clothing in public restrooms

● Breaking Federal, State, and Local laws

Use of alcoholic beverages is restricted to designated areas and authorized events.

Illegal possession, use, or consumption of controlled substances is not allowed.

Open Book is a smoke-free building, including the patio. Smoking and vaping is only permitted outside of the building, at least 20’ from the doorways

The Open Book Executive Director must approve the distribution of literature, solicitation, demonstrations, and special promotions. 

Unauthorized vehicles parked in reserved spots, in the main parking lot while not inside Open Book, or overnight may be towed at Owner’s expense.
