Open Book Turns 10

Just a decade ago, Open Book opened its doors as the first literary and book arts center of its kind in the nation. Since then, the creative energy of the building has not only attracted readers, writers, artists, and passersby to explore the space and see what the tenant literary organizations have to offer, but Open Book has also spurred the rapid development of a once-run-down neighborhood. Learn more about 10 inspiring years devoted to the book, covered by local Minnesota presses.

i do many of these

I read. I write poetry. I paint. I make my own journals. I tutor. I started a book club. I volunteer.

Life is short. Take time for yourself. Learn something new.

Open Book Is a Space for Everyone

Whether you're a writer, a reader, an artist, a parent, a teacher, or all of the above, Open Book can engage and inspire you. Take a class, read a book, join a writing group, attend a family day, or simply spend an afternoon wandering the floors of this one-of-a-kind building full to the rafters with creative energy.

Soak Up the Vibe

Once three turn-of-the-century warehouse buildings, the Open Book space maintains an aura of history in its exposed brick walls, weathered wood floors, and subtle relics – stairs leading nowhere, original wallpaper, worn doors and windows. A unique mix of old and new create a warm, imaginative charm, inviting you to spend an afternoon roaming the floors, or plan a get-together in the cafe or a classroom.

Play with Words

You don't need to be a published author to spend time at The Loft Literary Center. Offering classes, readings, and resources for writers and readers of all ages, and at all stages of their artistic development, The Loft Literary Center encourages you to tell your story, collaborate with fellow Loft writers and teachers, and get expert advice for promoting and publishing your work.
