When an Artist Writes a Book: The Highs and Lows of a Visual Artist Who Enters the World of the Written Word, w/Susan Iverson

  • Open Book 1011 South Washington Avenue Minneapolis, MN, 55415 United States (map)

Join us for a free public talk with artist Susan Iverson as she demystifies the experience of writing and publishing a book as a visual artist.

We’ve all admired books written by artists that convey process, technique, and inspiration through words and images. For most of us, however, their beauty masks the brain detangling, word searching, sample making, documentation and other labors leading to their creation.

Susan lives and works in rural Hanover County, Virginia near the small village of Montpelier. In 2015 she retired from her position as a Professor in the School of the Arts, Department of Craft/Material Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is included in collections including the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC.

Copies of Susan’s book, Tapestry with Pulled Warp: Inspiration, Technique, and the Creative Process, are available for purchase from the Weavers Guild shop.

This talk is free and open to the public.
